This past month, a short list was generated (which is getting shorter!). The organ has been getting played nearly daily and things are starting to settle in. Reeds have been tuned multiple times as they play in. The most notable accomplishment was to receive the bottom six pipes of the VDO, VDO Celeste and Salicional from Andy Meyer. Without surprise, his work turned out to be amazing. Truly a work of art. When I picked them up, he mentioned that he didn’t have time to clean the pipes and suggested (in a not so suggesting way) that I WILL be cleaning these pipes up, right? Of course. They were wiped down with Simple Green, then CLR and steel wool to get rid of the zinc oxide and finally some car wax (Andy’s recommendation). Safer and less toxic than the original lacquer finish. At the same time that I was working on those, Zach Frame soldered many pipes, repairing various issues with his new pipe soldering setup. This included a diaphone that until this point, was not installed in the organ due to its support structure being cracked. With those pipes installed, I needed to get an updated chamber photo!
